Division Avenue Redevelopment
Overview

Mayor Hardiman appointed a Task Force approximately one year ago to study the issues relating to the redevelopment of the Division Avenue Corridor. The corridor is one of the oldest commercial developments in the city, and is generally showing signs of decline. The decline in the area ranges in scope from vacant buildings, unattractive building facades, and lack of landscaping or other amenities. The goal of the Task Force was identify ways for the city, the merchants and the neighborhood to improve the area.

One of the recommendations was to hire a professional architectural or engineering firm to assist the city in the development of a plan for the improvements to the physical design of the area. Progressive AE has been selected to assist the city with this task. Progressive's goal in working with the city on this project is to create an innovative plan that will return Division Avenue to a vibrant and exciting business district and gateway to the city. The kick-off meeting was held on February 7, 2002, and the second meeting has been re-scheduled for Thursday, April 11, 2002. The minutes from the most recent meeting are provided. Meetings are held at the Home Acres Reformed Church located at 21 Murray Street SE.

As the materials are developed relating to the redevelopment of Division Avenue, the city will post minutes, plans and future meeting dates on its website. Please review these materials and provide the city with your input. The plans will eventually be adopted by the city and will become the city's guide for future development along the corridor.
